89TH MID-SOUTH GOLDEN GLOVES TOURNAMENT

The Golden Gloves began in 1928 in Chicago, Illinois before expanding to New York City, New

York. The Mid-South Golden Gloves is one of the tournaments oldest franchises having started in 1934 in Memphis. It consists of boxing teams brought in from Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana that bring in their state champions to compete for a chance to win the regional title and advance to the national tournament.

WEIGH-IN: Friday, April 14, 2022 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (Semi-Finals)

                     Saturday, April 15, 2022 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (Finals)

PHYSICALS:   3:00 P.M. - Only boxers scheduled to box 

DOOR’S OPEN: 5:00 pm

BOXING BEGINS:   6:00pm

GOLDEN GLOVES WEIGHT DIVISIONS

Twenty (20) weight classes will be contested at the National Tournament. As an Olympic Trials Qualifier, US citizens only are allowed to compete in the Olympic weight classes as indicated. Non-citizens are allowed to compete in the weight classes outlined below.

MALE ELITE: 112, 125, 139, 156, 176, 203, 203+

MALE ELITE: (Non-Olympic) 132, 147, 165

FEMALE ELITE: 110, 119, 125, 132, 146, 165

FEMALE ELITE: (Non-Olympic) 139, 154, 178, 178+

(Junior and Novice boxers will use these weight classes)

MALE & FEMALE JR/NOVICE: 112, 125, 132, 139, 147, 156, 165, 176, 203, 203+

MALE & FEMALE JR/NOVICE: 110, 119, 125, 132, 139, 146, 154, 165, 178, 178+

•           16–17-year-old athlete is considered a "Junior" boxer.

•           18–40-year-old athlete with less than 10 bouts is considered a "Novice" boxer.

•           18–40-year-old athlete with 10+ bouts will be considered an "Open" boxer.

a.         Boxers ages 18 thru 40. All boxers must be at least 18 years of age on the first day of their local competition but not yet 41 on April 1, 2023 to compete in non-Olympic weight classes.

b.         **Boxers may not be 41 years or older during the year 2024 to be eligible to compete in Olympic weight classes.

OFFICIALS: We are welcoming any currently registered level 1 or higher official from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee to work the event. All officials must have their blue passbook with them to work the event. The uniform for a Golden Gloves Official is a baby blue shirt and black pants.
