Mitt Competition at Women’s Tournament in Toledo
Entries: pairings of one boxer with one coach (coaches may assist multiple boxers)
3 Divisions: Prep (boxer aged 8-13), Junior (boxer aged 14-17), Elite (boxer aged 18+)
Prizes: boxing gloves given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all divisions
Boxers will be scored at the following two stations:
Compulsory — Each boxer will have up to one minute to successfully demonstrate:
Task 1) demonstrate ability to punch and then immediately defend a counter
for the following punches: jab, cross, hook, hook to body, and uppercut
Task 2) demonstrate 1-2-1-2 at long distance + move to evade a counter attack
Task 3) 1-1-2 (while move forward) + 2-1-2 (while move backward) + side-step check hook
Freestyle — Each boxer hits mitts freestyle for 3 rounds of 45-60 seconds:
Rd 1) boxer movement during or immediately after attacks
Rd 2) two phased attack — offense attack-defense-offense attack-defense
Rd 3) long and short range attack that includes defensive moves
Boxer’s scores are based on:
a) technical ability (accuracy, maintain posture such as chin, opposite hand up)
b) combination variety
c) timing and tempo appropriate for competitive boxer
Competition Flow: Sign-in, warmup, complete Compulsory tasks, then Freestyle rounds.
The winner of each division is the boxer with the most points from Compulsory + Freestyle.
